Diwali Food Drive 2011

Mayor of Aurora has kindly Proclaimed October 24th - Oct 28th , 2011 as “Diwali - Festival of Lights” week in the City of Aurora, IL.

Balagokulam representatives, were present to recieve the proclamation and kids performed a song “Happy Diwali” a hindi rendition for the Mayor and his staff.

A brief discussion was also held on the relevance of the Diwali Festival. Mayor Tom Weisner is very supportive of the efforts made by the Indian American community to make a positive difference on the occasion of Diwali.

On the occasion of Diwali - the Indian festival of Lights and the Holiday Season, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), SEWA International, Science of Spirituality (SOS), Ekal Vidyalaya and area Schools are conducting a Food drive to serve the underprivileged in Naperville-Aurora areas.

Your generous and timely support is appreciated.

Food items can be donated starting October 15th 2011 through November 15th 2011.

Collection Points:

· Indian Grocery store in your area

· Michael Fresh market (Naperville),

· Cermak Fresh Market (Aurora) and

· Science of Spirituality (SOS), Naperville center.

Food items (Vegetarian Items Only):

· Canned vegetables (no corn please), Rice and rice meals, Breakfast cereal (hot and cold), Sugar / Flour / Coffee / Tea/ Cooking oil

· Cleaning supplies/ Dish soap / Household cleaners / Liquid laundry detergent (80-120 oz bottles), Shampoo/ Deodorants / - Tooth paste/ Denture cleanser and adhesive, Baby diapers (size 3,4,5) / Baby wipes

Collected Food to be Distributed to the following locations the week of November (21-22), 2011

· Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, Naperville &

· Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry, Aurora.
